Lovely Professional University (LPU) takes pride of being an ultra-modern high-tech campus sprawling over 600 acres on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road at the entry of Jalandhar City, Punjab. It is the largest single campus university in India (including Govt. and Private Sector), with more than 30,000 students from across the world, 4000 faculty and staff. It offers more than 200 programmes stretching from under graduate to Doctorate to D.Litt. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. The university was established in 2005 under The Lovely Professional University Act, 2005 (Punjab Act 25 of 2005) and started its operation in 2006.
The vision of Lovely Professional University is to be a premier academic institution, recognized internationally for its contribution to industry & society, through excellence in teaching-learning, research & training, internationalization, entrepreneurship and leadership. The University has ventured to transform education through academic rigour, practical orientation and outcome-based teaching, establishing close cooperation between industry and academia, undertaking impactful research to address local, national and global challenges. It is grooming graduates to be lifelong learners with strong analytical and leadership skills and to develop global professionals & entrepreneurs with innovative spirit, tolerance and desire to make a difference to the society.
Faculties: The teaching departments are divided into three faculties.
Faculty of Technology & Sciences: The engineering programs are offered in Computer Science, Electronics, Communication, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Automobile, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Biotechnology, Biomedical and Petroleum. Apart from this, the science programs which are offered include Agriculture, Food Technology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Application.
Faculty of Business & Arts:It offers programs in Management, Commerce, Economics, Law, Hotel Management & Tourism, Architecture, Planning, Design including Fashion, Multimedia & Animation, Journalism & Film Production, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Teacher Education, Sports Education, Foreign Languages and all disciplines of social sciences.
Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences:The faculty includes Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Apart from the three faculties, LPU’s Directorate of Distance Education seeks to make education accessible to all through a wide variety of UG & PG Programmes.
The University has 30 Academic Blocks with smart classrooms, well equipped labs and auditorium with latest in-built technologies. A central instrument lab with state-of-the-art analytical and high-end instruments such as field emission scanning electron microscope, optical emission spectrometer, powder XRD, etc has been established with investment worth crores. LPU also has a 9 storeyed air-conditioned central library other than discipline specific libraries in the respective academic blocks.
LPU’s commitment to R&D is evident in its elaborate research infrastructure and supportive policies which have attracted serious researchers. In the recent past, faculty members of LPU have published more than 3600 research papers and 800+ research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. and D.Litt. from LPU. Research conferences, symposia and conclaves are a regular feature at LPU to keep the research community excited and promote collaboration and exchange of ideas. LPU has various partnerships with national and international institutions like McGill University of Canada, etc. for carrying out and promoting research.
LPU has tie-ups with 100+ renowned academic institutions in more than 20 countries of the world including USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Sweden. Due to its academic rigour, the university has attracted more than 3000 students from 70 countries across the globe.
LPU has partnership with several industries of repute such as Oracle, SAP, Google and Microsoft to boost industry orientation and employability. Several Centres for Excellence are also established in collaboration with industry. LPU has consistently recorded highest engineering placements in North India for three consecutive years. 500+ Multinational and National Companies including Amazon, HUL, Adobe, Verizon, VMWare have recruited LPU students across all disciplines. From Google to Microsoft LPU Alumni are working in countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, etc. with top brands at packages of over Rs. 1 Crore.
A unique cosmopolitan style multi-stored air-conditioned Uni-Mall serve as an interesting place to socialise and unwind, with its multiple departmental stores, food joints like Dominos, CCD, Fitness Gym with Jacuzzi and Sauna and a bowling arena. A 25-room Uni-Hotel on the campus provides all the luxuries and modern conveniences to visitors and parents of LPU students. The university campus has a Post Office with LPU’s own pin code, full-fledged branches of five nationalized banks, 50+ ATMs at various sites in hostels and the academic area. Other facilities include staff residences, transport and parking, shopping, 200+ food kiosks, and well-equipped campus hospital.
LPU campus is extremely vibrant and hums with cultural, co-curricular and sports activities all the year round which helps bringing out the best in every student and chisels well rounded personalities. These opportunities have helped propel LPU talent to national and international platforms. 200+ student driven cultural and sports clubs have enabled students to win many national and international accolades and LPU has become the first private university to win All India AIU Runners Up Trophy. Magic and excitement reach a crescendo with live events like Coke Studio and top bollywood, sports celebrities, noted poets and authors, business tycoons, social workers, and people from all walks of life regularly visiting the campus.
LPU has had the honour of hosting eminent personalities including then President of India - Shri Pranab Mukherjee who has also accepted Honorary Doctorate degree, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and six heads of nations from Afghanistan, Mauritius, Lesotho, Dominica, St. Nevis and Kitts. Their acceptance of Honorary Doctorate degree is an honour to the faculty, alumni and students of LPU. Nikki Haley, the current US Ambassador to United Nations has presided over a research conference at LPU.
